Broker's Comments

Boatshed London are delighted to offer this fantastic 33m Dutch Barge for sale.

*THERE IS NO MOORING INCLUDED WITH THE BARGE*

Commissioned in 1903 and completed in 1904 by the De Dageraad yard of Woubrugge Holland, this is a truly beautiful example of a Klipper barge. She retains many original lines and has a remarkable flared bow. Originally built for transporting potatoes, beetroot, timber and coal and was converted into a liveaboard in 1999.

The boat boasts three large cabins, three heads and an enormous galley/saloon, providing ample space for a family, potential for split accommodation for rental or B&B businesses.

The fit out and facilities are simple but pleasing and everything is accessible. There are some unique features of note, including a long dining table built out of an antique leeboard and cut glass as well as a midships, raw steel feature wall.

Other amenities include hardwood floors throughout, oil central heating and three woodburners (one with a very fun, artistic depiction of the Three Billy Goats Gruff story).

Starting from the stern, the aft cabin retains the layout and feel of the original captain’s cabin, updated with a modern ensuite shower room. A small ladder leads to a large wheelhouse with 360 degree views, wood store and seating area. The wheelhouse sits above the engine room which is very spacious, allowing access to service the engine, steering gear and pumps. The engine room also holds the water and waste tanks etc.

Forward of this is a utility space with a washing machine and more storage. Off this is the main bathroom with a modern and fresh feel, handsome blue tiles with cream and pine woodwork. Moving into the galley kitchen area that has a range cooker and plenty of storage. Another double cabin is found on the port side with the rust coloured raw steel feature wall.

Then you find yourself in the heart of this boat, an enormous and bright living area. It is warehouse-y in feel but the many skylights, portholes and wood burning stove keep it cosy, light and spacious. In the far corner of this space, the ‘secret bookcase’ (easily removed to leave a double glass paned door) leads into a near-self contained unit, currently serving as a studio, but could serve as another cabin, office or workshop. This area boasts a woodburner, basic kitchenette, large sliding barn door to split up the spaces and its own entrance, a double hatch to the deck.

The last space is the forecastle, great for storage and containing a generator, spud pole and anchor chain storage.

The systems and maintenance have all been overhauled recently, providing some peace of mind to any potential new owner. This includes:
- There was an updated Scania DS8 engine installed in 2021
- The barge was last dry docked in 2021 with a full, viewable report provided by a well regarded London surveyor - ready to be signed over to a new owner.
- At dry dock all previous coats of bitumen were ultra high pressure washed back to steel, and Hempel Epoxy applied to the gunwales.
- The decks and coamings were painted in 2021
- A new combi boiler (with 10 year warranty) was installed in 2023.
